Flourishing in Christ

Flourishing in Christ

When you are new in an establishment, the euphoria of being new is soon replaced by worries of how to grow and flourish in that place. You start working actively for resources; both human and materials that would be instrumental to your success in the place. Just as much when you are new in Christ, it is inevitable to consider how to grow in Him and flourish. We are not called to Christ just to answer the name ‘Christians’. The intent of God for His creation is to flourish.

The Bible says in Psalm 92:12-14 that “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing”. The question then becomes “How do I flourish as a Christian?”

From the passage above, we know that to truly flourish in life, you must be planted in the House of the Lord. Our lives are a seed. What we choose to do with that seed will determine the harvest of our lives. If you are to flourish and produce fruits, you have to have your roots down in order to receive regular nourishment. You should be established in a local church where you can receive guidance, encouragement and thrive in your gifts and talents.

Second on how to flourish in Christ is walking with God daily. The Bible says in Micah 6:8 that: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Walking with God means reading and meditating on God’s word every day, praying and talking to Lord, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you through God’s word, confessing and forsaking any sins and obeying the commands found in God’s word. Please know that you cannot just walk with God when you feel like it. We must make the choice to set aside time for the Lord and walk with Him every day.

Third, you must choose to trust the Lord with everything. We all experience fears and anxieties. However, when we learn to cast our fears and burdens unto the Lord, He will carry them for us. The burdens are then removed from our heart because we have chosen to trust the Lord to carry them for us. Jeremiah 17:7-8 gives us an analogy of how blessed a man who trusts in the Lord is. Trusting in the Lord is not a feeling, it is a decision and the more we choose to trust the Lord, the easier we flourish.

Fourth, you must forsake any sin in your life. A life that is free from sin can truly flourish. When we confess and forsake our sins, a huge burden is lifted from our shoulders. We feel free and at peace with God. To properly handle sin, we should not only confess and forsake the sin but also make restitution for our wrongs. Zacchaeus is a good example of this in Luke 19:8. When we properly handle sins in our lives, we will live in the confidence that our sins are forgiven in Christ. We will praise the Lord of our salvation as the One who can keep us from stumbling. With sins in our lives properly handled, we will prove the truth of Proverbs 28:13 which says that “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.”

Do you want to flourish in Christ? If your answer is yes, please know that you first have to be born again to flourish in Christ. To be born again, kindly say this prayer in faith:

Lord, I believe you want the best for me that’s why you sent your son Jesus to die for my sins. Today, I ask that you forgive me, cleanse me by the blood and make me yours. In Jesus name. Amen.
